Relief for Sensitive Teeth

Sensitive teeth can make even simple, everyday tasks difficult. It is important you talk to your dentist if you experience sensitive teeth as it can be a sign of a bigger issue.

Things a dentist might recommend to relieve sensitive teeth:

  • Using a sensitivity toothpaste. There are many different brands on the market that help to reduce sensitivity. Your favorite toothpaste may have a "sensitive teeth" line available!
  • Using fluoride treatments. Fluoride may help to strengthen and protect tooth enamel to reduce pain.
  • Covering exposed root surfaces with a sealant. A sealant can cover the exposed root which causes sensitivity. This sealant can also help protect the tooth from further wear.
  • More advanced procedures. If sensitivity is unbearable and other treatments prove ineffective, there are other solutions you can discuss with your dentist.

Remember that healthy teeth start with good habits, so brush regularly and keep a good oral health regimen. If you have other problems, like grinding your teeth, wear a night guard.
